Oil Of Oregano Uses And Applications

essential-OilEssential Oils can be used in so may ways. It is important to get educated so you use them judiciously and effectively.
Seek out oils of the highest grade that are free of toxins and synthetics. Not all of these products are as effective as the ones my family and I use. So do your research so you can more consistently count on the results you desire. High quality forms of Essential Oils can be taken orally and are now being used in hospitals. In fact, they are the oils I used in the hospital to help Lindsey to recover from her stroke. As soon as I put them on her she began to move! (Document at Baylor University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ Nov. 2012.)
Oil of Oregano is one exceedingly powerful example of these oils.
Be sure to dilute oregano oil with olive oil or coconut oil because this powerful oil is very “hot” and can burn you. However, when diluted it is safe and effective. (See NOTE for Dilution later in this article.)
The following information was compiled by Dr. Zoltan P. Rona, MD, MS ced
Oil of oregano is antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic. It also has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and is an ideal product to use for people who suffer from CFS and/or fibromyalgia. This is not regular oregano, but a wild form (wild mountain oregano, vulgare species) of the spice. Do not use a substitute or oregano from a grocery store because it will have no effect. Oil of oregano’s natural herbal supplement offers a variety of remedies
Many of us have enjoyed oregano with our foods at one point or another. Nevertheless, how much more would you enjoy it if you realized just how beneficial oregano could be to your health? You would probably sprinkle it on more than just your pizza and spaghetti!

Oregano is one of the most diverse health aids available. Unfortunately, however, most of the oregano that consumers are familiar with contains only trace quantities of the actual species of the plant, or in some cases, none at all.

Meanwhile, researchers have uncovered numerous benefits to using oregano and extracted oil of oregano. However, buyer beware. These significant health benefits are unattainable if the oregano is not the true substance.

Nevertheless, true oil of oregano offers many exciting remedies to a variety of ailments. In “Herbal Renaissance”, Steven Foster credits oregano as having “been employed to treat indigestion, diarrhea, nervous tension, insect bites, toothache, earache, rheumatism, and coughs due to whooping cough and bronchitis (primarily for it’s antispasmodic effects).”

The ancient Greeks were among the first to take advantage of oregano’s medicinal qualities. The Greeks termed the spice oregano, meaning “delight of the mountains”.

Although there are a wide variety of plants that are confused with oregano (including marjoram, thyme, and sage) true oregano grows wild in Mediterranean regions such as Greece. The wild oregano is the source of surprisingly potent oil of oregano.

In “The Cure is in the Cupboard”, Cass Ingram, D.O., has written a book that is dedicated to unveiling the health benefits of oregano and oil of oregano. He notes that “wild oregano is a veritable natural mineral treasure-house, containing a density of minerals that would rival virtually any food”.

The wild oregano is rich in a long list of minerals that includes calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, potassium, copper, boron, and manganese. Vitamins C and A (beta carotene) and niacin also are contained in oregano. Judging from its mineral content alone, it is not hard to figure out why oregano is such a valuable commodity. Consider some of oregano’s other useful purposes and it becomes even more obvious.

“Oregano is one of Nature’s finest preservatives”, states Ingram in another book,”Supermarket Remedies”. The author suggests that if oregano is used with foods such as meat, eggs, milk, or salad, you “will greatly halt the growth of microbes and, thus, reduce the risk for food poisoning.”

The key element in oregano is the oil, which Foster points out “contains carvacrol and thymol as the primary components”. Foster attributes the “fungicidal and worm-expellant properties” of oil of oregano to carvacrol and thymol. “These two phenols may constitute as much as 90% of (the oil).”

However, Ingram adds that these two phenols work “synergistically” and that is the reason oil of oregano packs a double punch in antiseptic power and explains why it is “infinitely more potent than commercial phenol in microbial killing power.”

All of this helps make oregano oil a significant factor in treating internal and external fungi including athlete’s foot. Skin conditions such a psoriasis and eczema can be improved with the treatment as well. Ingram explains the astonishing discovery that “oil of oregano outright destroys all variety of fungi and yeasts, regardless of where they reside.”

In addition to fighting various fungi, oil of oregano is useful against bacteria and parasites. As Ingram asserts, “oil of oregano’s antiseptic powers are immense . . . it inhibits the growth of the majority of bacteria, something that prescription antibiotics fail to accomplish.” In the case of parasites, oil of oregano has had success neutralizing worms, amoeba, and protozoan.

Additional uses for oregano and oil of oregano are multi-dimensional. It has been found helpful in combating diarrhea, intestinal gas, and digestive problems, as well as sore throat and breathing difficulties. Oil of oregano can be immediately help against bee stings and many venomous bites until medical attention can be reached. Oil of oregano has even been suggested as a treatment for dandruff, diaper rash, and other skin disorders.

The benefits of oregano has gone largely unnoticed and under publicized for far too long. As Ingram notes, oregano is “one of the world’s finest natural medicines, that is if it’s true oregano.”

So while oregano may hold the answer for a number of your health questions, be sure that it is in fact the real thing. Remember, these remedies are only attributed to genuine oregano and oil of oregano. Nonetheless, their values are much too important to overlook. Oregano may just be the thing you are searching for, or maybe did not realize was available.

Dr. Cass Ingram is a physician, educator, and author of over 10 books, (including his latest, “The Cure is in the Cupboard” continues this discussion on this important topic:

I spent the better part of 1995 and ’96 investigating the therapeutic values of wild oregano.

Oregano oil is a powerhouse for:

• fighting yeast, fungus (skin and blood-born)
• knocking our allergies, hay fever, and sinusitis
• stopping infections (cold and flu).

I learned about its strength first hand, as I suffered from a blood-born fungal infection that incapacitated me several years ago. I had to close my practice and move home to live. I tried everything, and ultimately discovered the potent antiseptic activity of wild oregano. It put me back on my feet.

Of late, the anti-allergic feedback I have received has been most impressive. Although the oil of oregano has been used since ancient times to fight yeast, fungal and viral infections, oregano’s ability to wipe out allergies, runny nose, sinusitis, and nasal drip has taken me by surprise.

Please understand, you are not going to get any better eating a pizza! Wild, crude, mountain-grown oregano (from the Mediterranean) is the only kind that is naturally rich in ‘carvacrols, flavonoids, and terpenes’, which give the oregano its tremendous strength. Carvacrol is a natural phenol that contains powerful anti-microbial activity. Flavonoids provide natural antiseptic properties, and Terpenes (long chain hydrocarbons) are natural anti-inflammatory agents.

Natural decongestants: Carvacrol, Flavonoids, and Terpenes are Mother Nature’s antihistamines and decongestants. Super Strength Oil of Oregano has over 70% Carvacrol by weight. That is an abundance of healing power. Please beware of cheap imitations. The Wolfe Clinic’s Super Strength Oil of Oregano is 100% pure wild oregano oil. It may be used internally and topically. Other brands of oregano oil are often unsafe and adulterated.

Anti-Allergy Properties: Every potential allergy sufferer needs to know that wild oregano is capable of halting your next allergy attack in its tracks. It is effective, reliable, and safe. Over-the-counter drugs have side effects, and they are not your only option. Try a natural approach first. Don’t be a victim of allergies any more. Wild oregano overpowers them every time.

Antibacterial Agent: Oregano is also an excellent antibacterial agent. Its volatile oils are highly active against the majority of pathogenic bacteria, including staph, strep, and E.coli. Furthermore, fungal resistance to oregano oil is exceptionally rare. Oregano is such a potent antifungal agent that it is capable of destroying even resistant fungal forms such as the mutated fungi which result from antibiotic therapy.

Internally: Use the Super Strength on or in the body. It is strong, so when using it internally, start with small amounts, like one or two drops twice daily in juice, or put in a capsule you can purchase at a health food store.

Take one drop twice per day working your way to one drop four times per day. Mix with one teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or olive oil to improve palatability. Take for a period of 15 days and then stop for 15 days. Then repeat the process.

Externally: Oil of oregano may also be applied topically to treat itches, infections of the skin, gums, teeth, and just about any orifice in the body. Exercise care if you use it in the genital region where it is best mixed with olive oil or coconut oil before application (1 drop per teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil/butter).

There are no side effects and it is compatible with any other natural remedy or prescription drug.

Oil of Oregano Effectively Treats:

· acne · allergies · arthritis · asthma · athlete’s foot · constipation · croup · dandruff · diarrhea · digestive disturbances · insect bites · bronchitis · canker sores · colds · flu · earaches · fatigue · gum disease · parasites · headaches · menstrual irregularities · psoriasis · toenail problems · seborrhea · ringworm · rosacea · sinusitis · muscle pain · varicose veins · warts

NOTE from Pamela Ann: I hope you appreciate this information and put it into action. I have had some truly amazing results from using this oil in a WIDE variety of situations and it has ALWAYS provided the support my family and I desired. I keep a supply in my home and take it with me on trips. I use it often to treat and prevent a long list of health care conditions.

NOTE for Dilution: Dilution depends on what you are using it for and what body part you are putting it on. I use 1 part oregano oil to 2 parts olive or coconut oil on feet. or even direct, neet on ingrown toenails. On more sinsetive skin I use one part oregano to 8 parts olive or coconut oil.

You can use this oil by diffusing it, applying it internally and externally. Put some drops in a lotion or a moisturizer to smooth on to your skin. Put some drops in an empty gel cap and swallow. Apply the diluted mixture  on the souls of your feet. Within 20 seconds it will be in your bloodstream; helping you to become well! “Does Anyone Have A Cotton Ball?”

Essential-Oil-with-dropperI highly recommend that my family, friends and clients become familiar with Essential Oils. They are powerfully effective healing oils.

I have been able to quickly and easily release the cold and flu virus, sore throats, ear infections, bladder infections, laryngitis, bug bites and stings (mosquito, spider, scorpion and more), ingrown toenails, infected wounds, poisonings, sunburn, a full blown Parkinson’s paralysis, food poisoning, vertigo,…the list is growing. I use a few drops daily and have been able to ward off some major illnesses before they could get a strong footing in my body.

One of the things I have grown to appreciate about having these oils on hand for our immediate use is that they save us money, time, energy and worry. Instead of racing off to the doctor or emergency room in the middle of the night, we can take immediate action when an illness first presents in our bodies. We are absolutely certain that these oils will perform for us.

Using them correctly is key. You see they are not to be used like medications that are only administered every 4 to 8, sometimes 12 hours. If indicated, you can use the oils every 15 minutes or half an hour and in a short while you can be well!

What is so remarkable about them is that they can actually go inside the cell where viruses reside.  The oils disrupt the communication system of the viruses so they cannot organize and replicate or grow larger in size or strength. Antibiotics can’t do that. In the same manner they also are able to stop bacteria dead in their tracks!

The following short story exemplifies their powerful healing qualities:

Blond Boy CryingI was traveling home from a cruise one winter and while waiting in the Florida airport I couldn’t help but notice a young 18 month boy as he wailed.

It appeared to me that he had been fitfully crying for hours. His exhausted parents were unable to sooth or comfort him so he could quiet down. Add to this miserable situation, he was preparing to go on the two and a half hour plane flight that my husband and I were also flying home on.

The child appeared as though he was throwing a gargantuan temper tantrum because he was hitting, slapping, kicking and pinching his parents. Naturally, the other people waiting for our flight were also beginning to wear down and looked tense and irritable.

I quietly pondered the situation and got the distinct inspired feeling that this little fellow was in excruciating agony because he was suffering from some acute ear infections and was unable to feel any relief!

I then approached the parents and asked them if this was the situation he was experiencing. They told me, “Yes” and went on to explain that they were treating the infection with some antibiotics.

I next asked if they would be open to trying out some very mild yet highly effective essential oils that are now being used in hospitals. I also told them that I too have used them along with my children, grandchildren and friends with great results. I explained to them that these oils would immediately reduce the pain and rapidly heal the infection.

cottonballBy now they were open to any reasonable resolution to their child’s agony and agreed to have me use the oils on their son.

I then turned to the group of people waiting for the flight and ask, “Does anyone have a cotton ball?” I briefly included an explanation about what was happening with the little fellow.

Suddenly it seemed like the whole area instantly united into a team of people searching for that one cotton ball!

sleeping toddlerSoon it was discovered and I divided it into smaller portions, dropped some oil on them and gently put the cotton pieces into his ears. He immediately pulled them out. I tucked them back in and he once again pulled them back out. But the oil had already begun doing its job and in less than 5 minutes the child stopped crying! I handed the bottle of oil to the parents and went back to my seat.

Relief liberally flowed out over the entire room. People began to smile. They whispered, “Thank You!” to me or formed the words with their mouths if they were sitting further away but uttered no sound. Awwww, the quiet…what a blessing.

Happy people in a planeThe child settled down and ended up sleeping for our entire trip. When I got up to use the restroom on the plane, the people once again began to smile at me. One woman even exclaimed, “It’s nurse Betty!” I couldn’t help laughing with the rest of the people when we heard her appreciative little quip.

This is just one example of how powerfully effective these healing oils are. Because I was prepared and carry those oils with me where ever I go, the little child, his parents and many other people were blessed that day with comfort and relief.

There are thousands of like stories and thankful people that witness and testify of the mighty power of  essential oils. I highly recommend them to you, your family and friends.

Mini Meditations

business web picture pink heartshaped roseIf you are feeling frazzeled, frustrated, fearful, worried or short on time, you can do a quick mini meditation, even while sitting at a red light, in your seat at work or school. It only takes a few moments.

This meditation may at first seem very simple but by simple actions great things can be accomplished!

I know that this action is powerful and can create a tangible difference in your day. I am certain of this because I have seen huge shifts in peoples lives when they allowed themselves to fully open up their minds and bodies to experience this gentle refocusing meditation. You too can experience this comforting change.

OK, go ahead and try it. As you are waiting at a stop light while rushing around town, trying to get to your appointments, or sitting where you are right now, allow yourself to start experimenting…

Take one deep conscience breath and simply ask yourself, “How am I feeling now?” Ok, perhaps you would like to take a moment and take three breaths! As you let it out, notice your body and how you are feeling.  Let go of thinking it to death…how do you FEEL now?  Is your personal feelings of joy increasing or decreasing?

Depending on your answers you can do the following:

If you are feeling pretty great, flood your entire body with feelings of gratitude, thanksgiving and appreciation for all the blessings that have been provided in your life. Notice the ones currently coming to you now.

Open up and allow every cell of your body to become engaged in this activity.  Let those good feeling that are generated within you grow bigger and bigger. You have the power to do this.

Just allowing in those feelings indicates  that you have increased your connection and personal relationship with those who created you. With that more perfect union, you can command all things in your life to form as you desire.

However, if you just ain’t feeling it…you know what I am talking about! Experiment with this:

Take three deep, slow cleansing breaths. Let EVERY CELL of your ENTIRE BODY become engaged in this experience. As you are breathing in, gather up any discord within you. Then easily and quickly allow any tension or distress to rapidly depart from you and go out the window. Continue to gather and release from every cell any vestige or tradition that helped those feelings to come to you. Continue to breathe and allow the shift to happen.

Let your whole being feel this wonderful shift as you release. You are letting go of feelings, situations, beliefs and traditions that have had value in the past but have completed their service for you. They have been your blessing and now you are ready to release them so you can learn something more satisfying now.

Next, breath in peace, well-being and clarity of mind into every cell of your body. You can do this because you just cleansed out a place for those feelings to come and dwell within you. Continue to breathe and allow them to anchor into every cell in your body. Continue to breathe.

Now, gently speak to your soul this truth; your truth:

“I have all the time and more to accomplish whatever I desire to create today.”  Say it several times with real meaning behind the words. Continue to breathe deeply. Feel your soothing balm of calm and wellbeing grow with in you. Plus, feel a bit of a thrill to flow into you. Smile and allow time to shift for you.  The outside dimension of time in your world will expand for you as the inside dimension of time speeds up. Continue to breathe and complete the shift.

Believe, with every cell of your body that this is literally happening for you right now. This is actually your truth. Begin noticing all around you how things and situations are smoothing out for you. Hold on to those feelings!

Here are some other ways you can use your mini meditation:

While getting ready for a test, event, speech, meeting etc, you can also take a deep conscience breath, relax your body and say to yourself with genuine meaning and feeling (otherwise, these are just hollow words! bla, bla, bla…):

  • I easily and quickly learn and understand new information and can just as easily recall that information.
  • I have all the help, support and funds I desire for the activities I am experiencing now in my life.
  • I have all the health, love, understanding, confidence…that I desire now!
  • All that I have prepared for is quickly coming together now.
  • I am enjoying every moment of this opportunity.
  • I am grateful for this expansion and growth.

Lastly, Throughout your day, check how you are feeling NOW.  Keep turning to that better feeling place.  Remember that your feelings are your perfect compass and guide throughout your entire life.  They will never fail you.

BIG TIP TO HELP YOU TAKE ACTION!; To help you stay awakened and allow in this mighty change of heart, set your watch for every half an hour. When it notifies you take some breaths and shift according to how you feel. Soon you will be able to simply take one breath to release and one breath to drink in!

Minerals Essential to Life and Health

Business web MagnesiumHere is an excellent researched report by my good friend, Tim Brown, about the importance of essential minerals, specifically Magnesium. They are a key component for us to include in our bodies to enhance their ability to thrive.

If you are concerned that you might not be getting enough magnesium (and apparently around 70% of other people in the USA are in a similar position, whether they know it or not) then transdermal magnesium oil can be more effective than oral supplements, which usually have poor absorption rates.

I use 6 to 8 sprays of Magnesium Oil (two bottles on the right in the picture) in the morning and the evening. I apply it on my feet, under my knees and on my armpits. It is a fabulous form of a deodorant –free of chemicals! For your convenience, here is the link to order this product: Click Here

I also have used Angstrom Minerals but have not established how many sprays to use morning and evening because I’m using up the oil first. Here is the link for this product: Click Here

Prior to reading Tim’s report, enjoy this informative Youtube introduction on Magnesium by Mark Hyman M.D.

MAGNESIUM  VIDEO: The Most Powerful Relaxing Mineral Available

by Tim Brown

Minerals are essential to life. Without them you can not live.  Without proper balance you can not achieve good health with all of the vitamins and essential oils in the world.  However once you understand their roles you will begin to understand how to achieve great health – as they come into balance the vitamins and essential oils will perform as though they are supercharged.

Although there are dozens of trace minerals found and utilized by your body we are going to look at the roles and interactions of these primary minerals in your body.

The 4 core minerals are:  – Calcium   – Potassium  – Sodium    – Magnesium

These core minerals are part of what is known as electrolytes; the major electrolytes in your body are:

ñ potassium (K+), ñ sodium (Na+), ñ chloride (Cl-), ñ calcium (Ca2+), ñ magnesium (Mg2+), ñ bicarbonate (HCO3-), ñ phosphate (PO42-), ñ sulfate (SO42-)

Although not part of the “major electrolytes”, Zinc is often added to the list of the 4 primary minerals as the 5th.

Vitamins and more recently essential oils are discussed in the natural health community as the answer to many of health issues.  Unfortunately minerals are rarely understood and discussed.  Yet without them you may never obtain the level of health you desire.

The exception to this is all of the hype about Sodium… you are told by almost everyone that you get too much.  What you are not told is that if the other minerals are in balance your body is equipped to maintain the proper levels.  For years companies have peddled Calcium as the answer to avoiding osteoporosis.  Some are promoting ingesting some Magnesium with Calcium along with Magnesium.

Do I Need Magnesium?

You will gain a sense of the importance of Magnesium from this quote from the NIH (National Institutes of Health)

“Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential to good health. Approximately 50% of total body magnesium is found in bone. The other half is found predominantly inside cells of body tissues and organs. Only 1% of magnesium is found in blood, but the body works very hard to keep blood levels of magnesium constant .

Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. There is an increased interest in the role of magnesium in preventing and managing disorders such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Dietary magnesium is absorbed in the small intestines. Magnesium is excreted through the kidneys.”  http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium

This quote also from the NIH outlines the importance of Magnesium in the treatment of type II diabetes:

(from study to ”To examine the association between magnesium intake and risk of type 2 diabetes.”)

CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest a significant inverse association between magnesium intake and diabetes risk. This study supports the dietary recommendation to increase consumption of major food sources of magnesium, such as whole grains, nuts, and green leafy vegetables.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14693979

Magnesium FAQ’s

Magnesium is essential to more than 300 bodily functions.

Most individuals in North America obtain adequate amounts Calcium, Potassium, and Sodium in their diets… however Magnesium is another story.  Since measured from 1915 until now Magnesium levels in the soil and therefore in our food has dropped by 2/3’s.

Calcium causes muscles to contract

Magnesium causes muscles to relax

Calcium should be on the outside of the cell

Magnesium should be on the inside

Adequate magnesium keeps calcium on the outside

Inadequate magnesium results in many problems with calcium – excessive calcium in the heart, hardening of the arteries build-up in joins, bone spurs etc

Statistically worldwide areas having the softest water and therefore the highest magnesium levels and accordingly the lowest calcium levels have the lowest heart attack rates.

As we age magnesium levels naturally are reduce and accordingly health risks increase.

Autistic individuals statistically have exceptionally low Magnesium levels and generally respond to Magnesium and sulfur (Epsom salt).

Pregnant women have a need for greater intake of Magnesium to avoid many pregnancy risks to themselves and their child.

Magnesium use is increased during times of stress and and during sports activities.

Magnesium is used by your body to convert cholesterol into insulin as well as to help to regulate its levels.

Only 1% of the Magnesium in your body is found in the blood serum!

Magnesium is so important to the heart function the the body will reallocate cellular Magnesium to the blood serum to protect the heart… to the detriment of other body organs and functions.

When kidneys are functioning properly you can not take too much Magnesium as any excess will be excreted by the kidneys; but high levels of Magnesium can cause soft stool or diarrhea

80% or more of the population is deficient in Magnesium with the average intake of Magnesium at 40% of RDA

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency

The symptoms of magnesium deficiency (from low dietary intake or excessive losses) are so widespread that I would consider getting sufficient magnesium before doing anything else for your health.  Magnesium deficiency is involved in many diseases including:

ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
Alcoholism (alcoholics have low Magnesium; alcohol intake further reduces Magnesium levels, increasing Magnesium levels has shown benefits to overcoming this addiction)
Alzheimer’s (patients typically have low total body Magnesium
Arthritis (Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis)
Anxiety disorders (agitated, nervy, ready to explode)
Asthma (most Asthma sufferers are low in Magnesium and many drugs used to treat this issue further aggravate this condition)
Auto-immune disorders (all types)
Backache and shoulder pain
Blood clots
Bones (brittle bones – particularly in the elderly)
Calcium deficiency
Cancers (low Magnesium levels are associated with an increased risk of a variety of cancers and some studies have shown that high levels of supplemented Magnesium inhibits carcinogenesis.  Researchers have made the statement that “Magnesium deficiency can lead directly to cancer”).   The authors of “Magnesium for Life” make the statement that “Magnesium Chloride is first and most important item in any person’s cancer strategy”.
Cardiac arrhythmia
Craving for salt or chocolate
Cardiovascular disease
Cerebral Palsy (in children from Magnesium deficient mothers)
Chest Pain (Angina)
Cholesterol (high levels or imbalances – such as high triglycerides)
Chronic fatigue
Chronic pain
Congestive heart disease

DHEA – low levels (adequate Magnesium is required for your body to produce DHEA)
Dental issues: cavities & tooth decay
Dental issues: crooked teeth/narrow jaw – in children from Magnesium deficient mothers
Diabetes  (Type I & II but particularly Type II)
Drug addiction – Magnesium supplementation has been shown to be effective in the treatment of craving of opiate drugs such as  heroin, morphine, methadone, codeine, oxycodone (Oxycontin) meperidine (Demerol).  Increased Magnesium intake can positively impact emotional and mood issues while overcoming other drug addictions as well particularly drugs that lead to paranoia and mood disturbances.
Eating disorders: Anorexia and Bulimia
Emotional – in addition to depression individuals will low Magnesium may be high-strung, on edge, and experience Paranoia (increasing intake of Magnesium, the “mood balancer” can contribute to a person’s feeling of well-being
Energy low, lack of energy
Epileptic seizures
Erectile dysfunction (and premature ejaculation)
Focus – inability to focus or poor attention span
Heart palpitations, abnormal rhythms, racing pulse
High blood pressure
Hormone regulation

Joint & muscle pain (chronic and periodic)
Immune system compromised (with secondary problems as a result)
Impaired athletic performance
Increased intracellular calcium
Inflammation (especially affecting the heart)
Intestinal disorders – including Crohn’s disease, IBS, Colitis and food allergies
Irregular heart beat
Kidney disease
Kidney stones
Memory issues  (poor memory, confusion)
Menstrual problem
Multiple Sclerosis
Muscle cramps (tight and knotting)
Muscle spasms and twitches
Muscle weakness
Muscular skeletal problems (fibrosis, fibromyalgia, cramps, pains)
Neck pain
Nervous problems, anxiety, panic attacks, confusion, irritability, hypertension
Noise sensitivity (and other nerve sensitivities)
Obstetric problems (per-campsite, pre-term labor, and other issues)
Osteoporosis (even a mild deficiency in magnesium is a risk factor for osteoporosis)
Panic attacks (irritable, apprehensive, aggressive)
Parkinson’s disease
Polio (compromised immunity & quick application of Magnesium to afflicted stopped and reversed long-term effects)Potassium deficiency (hypokalemia)
Restless legs syndrome
SIDS – Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Sleep issues (inability to sleep, grinding teeth, sleep apnea, poor breathing, wake stiff & sore.
Skin – premature wrinkles
Skin (sensitivity, tingling, prickly feeling, crawling sensation)
Stress, increased sensitivity to stress
Stroke (Magnesium is preventative and can also help restore damaged tissue if administered quickly after event)Syndrome X- insulin resistance
Thyroid disorders – low, high and auto-immune; low magnesium reduces T4
Violent behavior and tendencies

This non-exhaustive list of just 90 diseases and afflictions reflective of or impacted by low Magnesium levels will begin to help you understand the importance of the role of Magnesium in your body!

Magnesium’s role in the use Potassium

Potassium provides regulation of  the heart. Potassium  also provides the kidneys with the ability to regulate the amount of sodium maintained by the body.  High blood pressure may be present in individuals obtaining enough Potassium in their diets due to inadequate amounts of Magnesium – others may need to supplement their Potassium intake to normalize their blood pressure.  However Magnesium supplementation is the place to start as inadequate intake of Magnesium may be the underlying cause of Potassium deficiency.

Warning: Remember Potassium regulates the heart; overtaking Potassium intake can lead to arrhythmia, slow heart rate or even stopping of the heart..

Magnesium’s role in the use of Sodium

If properly operating the kidneys will regulate the the amount of sodium retained by the body but requires Potassium to perform this function.  Adequate levels of Magnesium are required for Potassium to do its job.   This is one of the reasons that unprocessed sea salt is so important; it provides a natural balance of minerals necessary for your kidneys do to their job.  Table salt or processed sea salt contains only Sodium Chloride (and many times Aluminum sulfate) without the necessary minerals and trace minerals for your kidneys to be effective.

Magnesium’s role in the use of Calcium

Calcium’s use and regulation may be the most important job of Magnesium.  Failure to maintain an adequate Magnesium levels can result in Calcium acting like a crazed madman in your body.   Hardening of the arteries or calcification is only possible with low Magnesium levels.  Calcium deposits in the joints can be another result of a deficiency of Magnesium.  Magnesium should be found intracellular – Calcium extracellular; low Magnesium levels compromises this relationship.  Supplementing Calcium levels with inadequate Magnesium levels will only exasperate this situation sometimes with catastrophic results.

Magnesium’s role in Heavy Metal Poisoning

The term heavy metal poisoning normally refers to lead, mercury, iron, copper, manganese, cadmium, arsenic, nickle, aluminum and silver.   Evidence is mounting that low Magnesium levels contribute to elevated levels of heavy metals gaining access to the brain bypassing the brain/blood barrier.  It is also believe that low total body Magnesium levels contribute to learning disorders in children.

Factors and Substances Adversely affecting Magnesium Levels

Alcohol – all forms cause significant Magnesium losses
Calcium– high levels block magnesium absorption
Chronic pain– any cause
Coffee– significant losses
Cyclosporin– extra magnesium can protect from side-effects
Diabetes– Magnesium excretes with sugar in the urine
Diarrhea– any cause
Dieting– stress plus lowered intake
Diuretics- even potassium sparing diuretics do not reduce Magnesium losses
Insulin- whether from using insulin or from hyperinsulinemia
Over-training– extreme athletic physical conditioning/training
Phentermine / Fenfluramine
Physical exertion (sports activities, hard physical labor etc)
Prescription drugs – hundreds of prescription drugs adversely affect total body Magnesium levels (many of these can be found readily on the FDA website).  Beta blockers which are commonly used to treat high blood pressure, glaucoma, migraines, heart arrhythmia and angina can cause substantial Magnesium losses.
Sodas- especially cola type sodas, both diet and regular
Sodium– high salt intake (particularly processed salt lacking in minerals)
Stress– physical and mental- anything that gets your fight or flight reaction

Testing for Magnesium Levels

It is estimated that nearly 80-90% of the U.S. Population suffers from low Magnesium levels.  This is despite many of these individuals showing normal blood levels.   How is this possible?   Less than 1% of Magnesium is found in the blood.  Additionally the body has the amazing capability to protect itself; if the heart is receiving low amounts of Magnesium your body has the ability to draw Magnesium from your cells from all other parts of your body to provide enough in your blood to keep your heart beating!     Blood tests may therefore show normal levels of Magnesium while your body is starved of it!

In a Magnesium sufficient body 53% will be found in bone, 27% in muscle, 19% in soft tissue and the remaining 1% in blood, sweat and fat (Comparatively 85% of Sodium in the body is found in the blood and lymph systems).

Additional demands on Magnesium are made during times of stress as well as during exertion (sports and otherwise).

Understanding this may concept help you to understand why an individual my have a heart attack in a stressful situation, trauma (including surgical), in the midst of the excitement of hunting, shoveling snow, while running, or even a high school athlete dropping dead after a game.

There are a number of costly more advanced tests that can provide a better picture of Magnesium levels but since most individuals are deficient and excess Magnesium is excreted by the body there is little reason not to increase Magnesium intake.

Magnesium For Cellular Health

Magnesium is essential for cellular health.  Magnesium is a necessary mineral to enable your cells to perform DNA repair and replication of cells damaged by disease. With the aid of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) it is believed that uptake of magnesium to the cells is increased.  Many people find that taking a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water daily increases their energy level due to the impact that it has on the mitochondria (the energy pumps of the cells).   It is recommended that bicarbonate of soda not be taken around mealtimes to avoid lowering of stomach acids needed for the digestive process.

How much Magnesium do you need?

The RDA recommendation for adults is 350mg daily although typically only 1/3 this amount is obtained in your diet.  As this is an average you may need as much as 2-3 times this amount.  Many researchers argue that the RDA recommendation is too low.  Studies have shown that over the last 70 years Magnesium obtained in the diet has dropped substantially.  It is interesting that the increase of heart disease over this same time period have Magnesium intake has dropped similarly.   Additionally statistics show risk for heart failure is greatest in hard water areas of the world (higher calcium/lower magnesium).  Statistically this risk follows countries and even cities!

Forms of Magnesium

While Magnesium is one of the most basic and plentiful elements found in the sea it binds to many other elements and therefore is available in many forms.  Looking up Magnesium supplements can be dazzling with more than a dozen and a half forms – mostly in tablet or powder form.  Some of these forms can have just a 2% absorption rate!  The best oral solids supplements may have a 30% absorption rate.  Some require healthy stomach functions (high levels of hydrochloric acid) for utilization.  With most solid forms of Magnesium supplements you will experience a laxative effect or even diarrhea before adequate levels of Magnesium are achieved.  These effects may actually result in lowering your available Magnesium levels!

The exception to oral supplementation is angstrom Magnesium which boasts an absorption rate of 99.9%.   This sub-cellular form of Magnesium can be taken internally or used transdermally.   Note: an angstrom is a measurement, 1/10 billionth of a meter is is used to measure atoms, molecules and microscopic biological structures.  Due to processing to an angstrom size minerals in this form readily pass through cell walls.

Angstrom Magnesium is available in different concentrations.  At the highest concentration (9000 mg/L) 2 tablespoons (1oz) of this bitter liquid will provide 267mg of bioavailable Magnesium.

The  Preferable Way to take Magnesium

I share a common aversion to taking lots of tablets and pills.. here’s the good news:  Magnesium is readily absorbed and utilized transdermaly.   While you will want to avoid your eyes both Magnesium Oil and Angstrom Magnesium can be applied to all other parts of your body.

Magnesium Oil is actually not an oil but feels like an oil to the touch.  It is made from evaporated Magnesium Chloride being added to distilled water resulting in a 35% solution. Since the specific gravities are different of these items it is possible to calculate the effective dosage.  Most individuals will find 5-6 spritzes from a spray bottle provide an adequate daily intake.

Application is most effective on the bottoms of your feet, the insides of your thighs and your armpits; and makes a wonderful substitute for deodorant (you seriously want to avoid  antiperspirants which depend on Aluminum sulfate to constrict blood vessels and results in uptake of poisonous Aluminum).  Also don’t hesitate to apply over sore muscles or joints.  Make a habit of using Magnesium Oil as part of an after-shower routine to avoid forgetting to increase your daily intake.

Transdermal application is so effective that the claim is made that using Magnesium Oil everyday for 4 weeks following the above guidelines can approximate 10 intravenous Magnesium Chloride treatments  that might be a protocol applied in an emergency room in response to a heart attack or stroke.

Magnesium Sulfate a.k.a. Epsom Salt

Magnesium sulfate commonly known Epsom Salt (not really a salt) can also be used as a foot soak in a bath but has a low Magnesium absorption rate.  The inclusion of sulfur can help to reduce joint and muscle pain.  Epsom salt can also be useful garden additive for tomatoes, peppers, roses and many vegetables as a soil additive to increase Magnesium and Sulfur levels or as a foliar spray (@ a rate of 1 Tablespoon per gallon).  Yellowed leafs will turn a healthy rich green as more chlorophyll is produced.

Excess amounts of Magnesium can cause soft stools or diarrhea.  Begin any supplementation process with Magnesium slowly and adjust intake as tolerance increases.  Also, individuals with Kidney problems should consult their physicians first.  In some cases increased Magnesium can help to normalize kidney functions; in other cases the failed or failing kidneys can result in Magnesium overload with symptoms that mimic Magnesium deficiency.

“Note: Due the the alkaline nature of Magnesium some users may experience temporary tingling or skin irritation when using Magnesium oil transdermally. You may tolerate this sensation or need to start initially by diluting solution with additional distilled water.  Alternatively remember that most of the Magnesium is absorbed in the first 20-30 minutes after application. You may rinse your skin with water after 20-30 minutes.”

Other minerals (and vitamins) to consider

Zinc: Often considered the one of the 5 (rather than 4) primary minerals, Zinc is a mineral essential to your immune system.

Selenium: Lower Selenium levels seem to correspond with increased cancer levels and particularly prostate issues.

D3: Magnesium is the key factor in converting Vitamin D3 to a form that can be used by the body.  D3 is essential for a strong immune system.

Three Page Roadmap for Life

business web roadmap ParisOpening to Your Creative Powers Exercise…Or Three Page Roadmap for Life! (from the chapter, “Wrapping It Up” in the book “The Mindset of Miracles”)

Take three pieces of paper and a pen or pencil. Be sure to HANDWRITE on all three sheets. Fill out the information by following the directions below. Do these exercises quickly. Write what first comes to your mind, in other words, don’t think it to death.  Your first impression will more likely flow from your wise eternal soul while connected to your source of Divine Energy. The voice that thinks it to death is the vacillating voice of the flesh that often discounts your original inspired thoughts and picks them apart.

Page one:

Write everything you are thankful for. Include what gives you feelings of gratitude an appreciation. Allow yourself to actually FEEL your thankful gratitude and appreciation as you do these exercises. Your soul’s response and ability to connect to your team will be more profound!

If you have difficulty beginning, start with your simple joys in life such as the song of a bird, a soft pillow for your head, a beautiful sunset, the purring of a kitten…Soon, your page will be filled.

This exercise will assist you in adjusting your feelings to shift to a higher level of awareness and connectedness to your Source. Allow yourself to recognize how much you are personally loved and provided for. See that manifestation all around you. Your awareness of the presence of your personal team and your connection to them will feel stronger. The adding of your FEELINGS will significantly pump up the results of this exercise from mere thoughts that are quickly forgotten to an entire body response that more likely will be retained and utilized.

Look over the page you have just written and allow yourself to believe and accept this truth:

I am a being that comes from a place of love and abundance.
I allow myself to see the daily evidence of this truth NOW!

Also, ask with feeling the following, “More of these blessings in my life now, please. Thank you!”

Page two:

Write down all the people that “get” you. Anyone who has been there in your life. Perhaps someone was free of judgment and simply completely accepted you. Another may be a total stranger that extended a kindness. Write down all the qualities of these people who you admire. In fact fill in the rest of the paper with names or descriptions of a variety of individuals who you respect and appreciate. If you don’t know their names, just write what you are able to, such as the crossing guard at your elementary school. Then write down the qualities you valued and treasured about them. Look over this page and with FEELING in your soul say

“ More people and qualities like this in my life NOW, please. Thank You.”

This exercise will help you more purposefully draw to you these types of people into your life NOW. They will also help you to develop more of these fine qualities in your life that you admire in others.

Allow your soul, your body, mind and spirit, to THINK, VISUALIZE and FEEL this statement:

“I easily and quickly draw to me continually only harmonious relationships in all areas of my life NOW!”

 Page three:

Finally write what you would purposefully LOVE to create in your life NOW. Add your feelings of excitement and passion about what you desire. Remember the story about the Chef in Mexico? Add as much detail as possible. Do not concern yourself with how to accomplish these goals. Trust that they are beginning to form for you NOW. See, Smell, Taste, Feel and Hear these experiences forming NOW! See yourself actively participating in these visions. Feel your excitement and hold on to that feeling. Put a date on the page of when you wrote down this information. If you’d like, put beginning and completion dates on these goals. Go ahead, give yourself permission to think BIG if that is your heart’s desire. Release any limitations and resistance.

Look over your page and the information on it. Allow yourself to picture the formation of these goals and preferences. This exercise will help you more clearly identify what you would prefer to purposefully create in your life NOW. It also sets in motion its creation in a spiritual realm or dimension. The more detail you supply the more easily you will recognize what you have asked for when it appears in your world.

When you add your genuine excited feelings about your preferences being created for you now, those feeling literally drive your desires into your physical world. Believe, releasing all wavering, that this is your truth.

“ I easily and quickly draw to me only the experiences and things I purposefully desire to have in my world NOW. I readily release all else. Cast off any distractions from your preferred goals. Whenever you happen to think about what you are creating, allow an excited happy thrill to run through your soul.

Remember, we were always supposed to have those happy, carefree, joyful childlike feelings. They help you to recognize how fully you are connected to your Divine Source of Creative Energy. They also help drive your creations into reality.

Believe in yourself and your ability to create with your Divine Team. Allow the Truth of your belief to gather up and grow within you. Let it fill you to overflowing!

As your recognize your creations appearing easily and quickly in your life, give notice of them and give heartfelt thanks and feelings of appreciation and gratitude to your “Team” for taking the time to personally create with you. Notice also the many displays of kindness and miracles large and small that are showered upon you daily. Allow yourself to marvel at how generous and giving they are. Feel your joy for them and theirs for you. These are some of the thoughts, feelings and actions that will help you remain centered in your hurricane. In fact, take time to notice how you are feeling throughout your day. Ask these questions:

“Am I centered in my hurricane? Am I feeling peace and clarity of mind?”

If you feel like you are slipping out of your center and sliding toward the rough outer edges, review your first paper that is filled with all the situations you have experience that encouraged your feelings of joy. Keep turning your soul more and more toward that better feeling place of wellbeing. You soon will be back in you center.

Remember that you are drawing opportunities to learn about in your life.  You are also the one releasing them and pushing them away as you remain in your center, unless you choose to become distracted. You also choose how long you desire to experience these lessons for growth and expansion.

Write down your “Stories” as they come into your life. Stories like the ones in this book.  You already have some. It is important to record your “A-Ha! Moments” so you can reflect on them from time to time… especially when you may begin to feel somewhat disconnected

Let go of any other feeling that may pop up. Specifically let go of jealousy, envy or lack. All those feelings push you further away from fully ushering in your eternal connection and power to purposefully create the world you prefer.

Genuinely allow yourself to feel happy for the other individuals who have taken the time to participate with you during this creative process. Be grateful they have provided you with an example of your possibility to be able to receive more blessings and opportunities. Be thankful they helped you to more clearly define what you would love to enjoy in your life as well. Think and feel wonderful feelings while you are connected to your source of creative energy. Then say the following:

“More of this please in all of our lives. More of this Now, please. Thanks!”

Met all your goals and have slid into a funk? Feeling tired, sleepy, depressed, blah?

Do your three pages again and start rapidly creating what you prefer next. Then continue creating a joy filled life for the rest of your existence…
